Shaft Quantitative Inspection Device (SQUID™)

Shaft Quantitative Inspection Device (SQUID™)

The Shaft Quantitative Inspection Device (SQUID™) system is a new technology for quantitatively assessing the quality of the bottom surface of a bored pile or drilled shaft. It measures both the thickness of soft material or debris that may be covering the bearing strata, providing a force and displacement in numerical and graphical form. An important part of bored pile construction is the cleaning and inspection of the bottom of the hole prior to the placement of reinforcement and concrete. To achieve cleaning once drilling is complete, a cleanout bucket is typically used to remove any material unsuitable for end bearing support. Bottom inspection is then performed, often by lowering a camera down the bore hole, a procedure that gives a rough idea of the thickness of any debris left at the bottom. To improve the inspection method, SQUID™ takes accurate displacement and penetrometer measurements, providing an objective, quantitative assessment. The SQUID system is available in 2 sizes. SQUID66™ is for excavations larger than 76cm or 30 inches; and SQUID36™ is for smaller diameter excavations (>45cm/18in). Both systems include: the SQUID™ data collector body, with a drill stem adaptor, typically three contact plates, instrumented cone penetrometers and displacement transducers; a cable reel; a wireless transmitter; and the SQUID™ main unit. The penetrometers have standard 10 cm2 tip area. SQUID testing can be performed remotely with Connect Technology. Learn more about remote testing.

The SQUID-S software lock license is not a shared license and only good for one user and on one computer at a time. How you activate the license is by emailing in your site code and we will reply with a site key.

  • To transfer license from the licensed computer open the software from the Help Menu and follow the screen message to deactivate license and send us the Deactivation Code to confirm. Then from the new computer you wish to have the license activated on, send us a new Site Code and we will reply with a new Site Key for the new computer
  • Please deactivate software license and send us deactivation code before you format your system.

    License Transfer & Reactivation Policy

We offer free license transfers for all single‑user software locks, as long as the original installation is properly deactivated. A valid deactivation code must be provided when moving the license to a new computer.

If a deactivation code cannot be generated due to computer failure, reformatting, or system malfunction, a reactivation fee will be required to issue a new activation.

This policy ensures the protection and proper management of all licensed software.
